I'll share my thoughts about Quake Live this days...
As mentioned in my previous article, the game was updated into full version and split into 3 playable options.
Since then I played free version and I've noticed that playing team type, like capture the flag, clan arena, team death match is more then less awkward. Main reason is you need a server to play versus opponent squad. On public server that is not possible as random players can join. On private server you don't get access unless your are invited. And even if you get invited you get system message "Please complete your trainin game before playing online" or "Maximum umber of non-premium guests is reached."
Of course there is also included delay because of commercials which pop up before you join to the server(only for free version). I bought many games and didn't need to watch commercials in the menu itself(pro version), no commercials! By Quake Live you have commercials if you are free or pro member. Shame! So,...
So, team players can't really enjoy in game unless they have premium or pro subscription, because private server is more then less needed in clans. And for that you need to have money of course. Not every kid has money this days. So I find yearly cost way to expensive for game which was already released in 1999 - Quake 3 Arena and it's playable in web-browser(Quake Live). Besides that even if the game was released in browser, lots of maps were made by community and as far as I know, that part should be available to everyone and free! Option of making 10 clans I find a bit silly too, if you are member of clan then you are part of 1 not 10, at least I don't support clan hoping

Exclusive awards, aren't awards something you achieve, not pay for?
What I expect from id software in future is that they develop and release a Player of demo recordings which works even if you don't have the internet connection! Maybe also a Quake TV option, so when someone has match you can go on server which is only for spectating, but that again costs money for users I guess.
On the end of the day it's still fun to play with friends, because of friends. Even tho lots of things bothers me by Quake Live I've decided to give it a chance for 1 year. But on one hand it still feels like, "If you can't beat them, join them."
